Thank you so much for arranging to have the Freestyle Repertory Theater come into the seventh-grade classes this week. We are about to start a narrative writing unit, and this was the perfect segue into it. What a wonderful duo Laura and Mike are! They were truly engaging and the kids benefitted from their knowledge. Their use of improvisational techniques to prompt the spontaneous development of story ideas was fantastic. I am thrilled with what they were able to pull from the kids in such a short time and how they respected each of the kid’s contributions. We would love to have them come back next year. Thank you again for finding and offering this program to us. It is one of the best I’ve seen in all of my years of teaching.

This high energy, participatory program explores the often forgotten element of creative writing: spontaneity! Freestyle Repertory Theatre encourages audience volunteers get involved in the whimsy and fun of creating characters and settings off the tops of their heads. They see how plot unfolds through changes and what happens next. Three dynamic artists teach about physical and vocal expression, and just as important, about collaboration and following through on ideas.
