Program: Working Together Makes Us Whole: Collaborative Mural Making

Artist: Molly Gaston Johnson

Type: Workshops / Residencies

Program Availability: In-PersonVirtual

Description

Students explore elements and principles of design to develop a language around visual expression with the ultimate goal of creating a collective mural (physical or digital). We collaboratively develop a theme tailored to either math, science, or social emotional concepts (in all cases, math will be used to establish the rule by which individual contributions are visually connected). With intention, this classroom-community agreement fosters mutual respect for individual contributions as well as the need to work within the project parameters. A final share-out highlights how the personal and collaborative work relate and how individuals interpret the same set of instructions. Simple materials are all that is needed.
