We thoroughly enjoyed the program. The students (and teachers) learned a lot about the Lenape. This was a great way to kick off our social studies unit on the Native people of NJ. After the presentation, students started making their own Lenape artifacts with materials they found on the playground. Thank you Rob Aptaker!
Program: The Ways of the Lenape
Description
Who were the Lenape Native Americans of New Jersey and Pennsylvania? Following years of conversation and relationships with Native people, Rob Aptaker gives students the opportunity to explore the tools, clothing, toys, games, medicine and music that have historically been a part of their daily lives, building a picture of pre-colonial life.
Note: Rob no longer wears Native American traditional regalia when presenting to students. Because some Native People have asked that non-Natives forego this practice, Rob has chosen to respect this request. He still brings traditional clothing to show the children, but he does not wear it.
