Program: The Joy of Puppets
Artist: Molly Gaston Johnson
Type: Workshops / Residencies
Program Availability: In-PersonVirtual
Description
A 4-Day experience of creating and storytelling with puppets, focusing on developing social emotional skills.
Students create puppets using materials easily found in the classroom or home. Exercises in elements and principles of design introduce the language that students use to create interesting characters and tell a visual story. Students then develop a story for an “alter-ego” puppet (connecting to personal traits, strengths and limitations) and supporting character puppet(s) (developing concepts around positive and effective interaction). These fresh design skills, when applied to creating puppets, result in an incredible array of expression and personality. Students share their stories and classmates see the connections and nuances among individuals.
