As a first grade classroom teacher, I have had the privilege to work closely with Ms. Marchese, a Professional Dance Educator. Her enthusiasm with the students and her ability to make the world of movement available to all ability levels, including myself, has been a joy to experience. Our planning time was met with the same enthusiasm, and her ability to incorporate movement into our classroom curriculum served to truly integrate the art form into our instruction. Ms. Marchese’s passion overflowed into our collaborative process, as she openly accepted suggestions, and with the skill of a consummate professional, we worked together to create truly enriching and enduring learning for the students. Our reflection time was also very important as Ms. Marchese helped to deepen my understanding of the art form and she provided me with the tools to continue to integrate movement with my students’ instruction.

Program: Get Up and Learn! Using Movement in the Classroom
Artist: Laura Marchese
Type: Professional Learning
Program Availability: In-PersonVirtual
Description
In this professional learning program, teachers will experience and understand the Elements of Dance as they explore their individual creativity. Movement activities will be scaffolded to model their usefulness as creative exercises and formative assessment tools. Each participant will create original movement that connects to curriculum content and will collaborate with the group to create a larger, unique piece of choreography. We will examine and analyze ways in which online platforms can be maximized for engaging our students, as well as become positive spaces for encouraging creativity and new ways of looking at the world.
