This session definitely made me more aware of Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning, and how to help teach my students.

Type: Professional Learning
Program Availability: In-PersonVirtual
Description
Through a series of engaging activities and discussions, teachers will learn practical skills on how to execute a large, collaborative art project for your school incorporating the whole student body. We will go over basic mural making techniques, as well as address educator’s ideas for their own dream collaborative school project, whether it’s a mural or a different idea for collaboration.
The workshop will cover techniques for guiding students through the mural making process, addressing challenges and conflicts that may arise, brainstorming out educator’s ideas for collaborative art projects to execute in their schools, and learning some basic mural making techniques.
Educators will:
- Learn a process to create a student-led cohesive mural design.
- Learn basic mural-making techniques that teachers can turnkey in their classroom or for a community event.
- Engage with fellow educators to collaborate on new ideas for school-wide initiatives.
- Discover new ways to engage students to work together and encourage social-emotional learning skills and group work.
- Consider how the history of mural making nurtures insight into the themes of collaboration, social justice, socio-emotional learning, critical thinking, and problem solving.
- Engage with think-group-share, discussion and critique, creating a visual language, arts integration skills in measuring and math, socio-emotional learning skills in collaboration, social justice engagement in creating messaging through large scale collaborative art making.
