Program: Coding: Literature Adaptation
Artist: Play Pattern
Type: Workshops / Residencies
Program Availability: In-PersonVirtual
Description
This lesson guides students through adapting a book into a media production, using Scratch, a visual programming language to program a Scratch Play. Developing a literature adaptation requires students to not only comprehend a story but also to closely study an original work, and to be created in a retelling. Many students need support to consider the implications of the new medium, and how that will change aspects of the original work. The selection of the literature to be adapted and the length (as well as complexity) of the final Scratch Play will vary according to grade level and age- appropriateness.
