One of the special education students commented “Wow! I’m doing it, I’m writing in Chinese”. The students enjoyed guessing the animals painted in calligraphy. Another teacher commented that Hua Hua “was a delight and her workshop was so enjoyable”. Hua Hua was an absolute delight. She was funny, engaging, and joyful. All of the students were able to participate and ask questions. All of the students created beautiful work and were successful in writing words in Chinese calligraphy.

Description
This workshop will introduce Chinese culture, calligraphy and tools for study of Calligraphy. Each student will make a UNIQUE work of art – create Chinese calligraphy and decorate it on a fan or scroll with an East Asian decorative pattern. Through the process of making an art, the student will understand that Chinese calligraphy is East Asian Art, it is a medium to express their emotions as well as an experience of self-discovery. Students will learn how to be appreciated and respected as individual artists.
Different Lengths and Fees for the Program:
Stand-Alone Workshop: a one-day workshop (up to 4 classes in a day)
- Introduce Chinese Calligraphy.
- Students get hands-on experience with Calligraphy.
- Workshop Materials Fee: $3 each student (Chinese brush, ink, rice paper)
3 days Residency: Introducing Chinese calligraphy and experience brush movement with their emotions
- Students glue their calligraphy on the Fan with the Chinese pattern.
- Workshop Materials Fee: $5 each student. (Chinese brush, ink, rice paper for Calligraphy. Black and Colorful board paper for a Chinese Fan making. Gold and silver markers to draw the Chinese patterns and decorate the Fan)
5 days residency. Introducing Chinese calligraphy and experience brush movement with their emotions
- Students create Calligraphy with Chinese Fan
- Students will create a Chinese Scroll to mount their calligraphy of ‘Four Seasons’.
- Workshop Materials Fee: $6 each student
Note: Artist will need her own room with a sink and the students would come to her. She has many tools, examples and Chinese inspiration to display and organize.
