Artist Statement

It is my goal as an art teacher to empower students and awaken them to their innate creativity and brilliance. John Dewey wrote: “Art is not the possession of the few who are recognized writers, painters, musicians; it is the authentic expression of any and all individuality.” I believe every student can learn to express personal meaning through art making and see its connection to the world at large. Art education addresses inequity and social justice in and out of the classroom. Through artmaking, students develop higher order thinking skills: analysis, synthesis, and evaluation contributing to their academic success.
