Artist Statement

Trees and their branches are inspiring in themselves. Early in my life my imagination and urgency to build propelled me into this career of natural woodworking. Now I recognize the wondrous energy in trees. I utilize and transform solid and deformed logs and branches into artful useful structures and furniture.

Artist Bio

David Robinson has been building architectural scale art and structures for the environment for more than thirty years. He has developed his own unique way of working with logs and branches in their natural forms. Red cedar and Osage orange trees are individually harvested off managed woodlands and the timbers and unique branches are transformed into solid esthetic structures possessing a magical and spiritual quality. These works are featured in  great private estates and public gardens of the United States, including New York’s Central Park, Wave Hill, the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Garden, and the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. Robinson is committed to educating young people about craftwork and the natural environment and has been featured in the Festival of the Arts “Big Build” at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C. for ten years.
